Lucas is a genuinely lovely place with a great atmosphere and even better people. This is my local café, and I go there day to day. The team is consistently friendly, welcoming, and professional, and they do an amazing job.
The coffee is excellent, the croissants are truly to die for, and I really like that the space transforms into a wine bar in the evening—it adds great character. This place was very much needed in Monkstown, and it shows.
What stands out most is how welcoming the staff are at all times. You really feel comfortable the moment you walk in, which is why I keep coming back.
The only downside isn’t actually the fault of Lucas itself. Because the space is quite small, when large groups come in—such as running groups or social groups—the noise level can become very high. The acoustics create an echo, and it can be a bit frustrating if you’re sitting alone or having a quiet chat with a friend. Once a big group arrives, it can take away from the experience. I’m not sure this is something they can realistically avoid; it’s probably just the nature of the space.

Simply one of the best places in Dublin. Food is amazing, the staff is really nice and the wine is the best.
The ‘N The Club’ crew at Lucas were terrific from the minute we walked in. A splendid variety of delicious tapas, and gorgeous wines all from beautiful Spain. The acorn fed Iberian ham is melt in your mouth and a definite must-try! I would highly recommend this cosy spot and can’t wait to try their breakfast the next time I pop in. The owner’s beautiful dog Lucas serves as inspiration behind the name. Personal and homely!
